Uncanny and The evil eye

I posted two movie scenes that immediately came to my mind when I started to read Freud's Uncanny.

They're creepy, but in an uncanny way and they depict stories in which children find hidden worlds. Eyes and tunnels played a major role in both movies.

Freud talks about how fear (the uncanny) can´t be depicted in tales, because we always know that these are not real. The eerie shall only function in the real world to give people the right feeling. But somehow, we must surely have been trained to feel these feelings or have something to link them to. Dreams? Films?

Mirror mirror on the...!

I thought it was interesting at the lecture 2011-01-28 when we got into how human beings create a certain perception of self by looking in a mirror.

When I was thirteen I realized that my perception of myself had changed after a summer of not looking in a mirror once. I could not quite put my finger on what it was, but I think I can describe it like I did not feel like the person looked back at me. Seeing oneself felt inhibitory and very strange.

I had a thought that I might investigate this further. We'll see how it goes!
